Year 6 to 7 Transition 2025

We are delighted that your child has been offered a place at Trinity Academy. They will take their place in a thriving school community that is kind, respectful and hardworking. Furthermore, they will be afforded exciting opportunities to take their learning beyond the classroom that will allow them to develop into confident, compassionate and successful individuals.

We recognise the importance of this transition, and we will ensure that it is handled with care and sensitivity.

Please take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the information provided.

Best Wishes,

Mr M Singh

Principal

To support with this, we have included some answers to frequently asked questions. If there are any questions that have not been answered here then please ask your parents or carers to contact us using the following email address, newyear7@trinity.futureacademies.org . FAQ

How long is the school day?

School begin promptly at 8.30am and ends at 3.05pm. The day starts with tutor time and the first period begins at 9.00am. There are 6 periods in a day that are punctuated with a morning break after period 2 and lunchtime after period 4. Each period lasts 50 minutes. After school clubs start at 3:15 and end at 4:30. You will be provided with a full list of lunchtime and afterschool clubs in September.

Will I be with in the same tutor group as my friends?

We cannot guarantee this but if not, there will be an opportunity to see your friends at break and lunch. Besides, making new friends is a big part of starting at a new school.

Can I use money to pay for food at break or lunch?

Money and debit cards cannot be used to buy food. If you do pay for school dinners, then an account will be set up for you and your parents or carers will top this account with a lunch fund. The cost of each item you take will be deducted from this fund. It is important to remember that whilst the food served by our catering team is amazing, you will need to manage your funds very carefully. Free fruit is available at break time.

Will the work done in lessons be difficult?

Your lessons will build on the knowledge you have already acquired throughout your time in primary school. However, it will become increasingly challenging as you move up in the school. Just think of it this way, the work that you completed in Year 1 of primary school is different to the work that completed in preparation for you SATs. Likewise, the work in Year 7 will be more challenging than the work completed in Year 6. However, your teachers at Trinity Academy are experts in their subject and they will ensure that you are well supported. It is natural to sometimes not understand a particular concept or piece of writing and your teachers will support your understanding through a series of well-planned lessons.

Will I get lots of homework?

You will be provided with homework timetable. Usually, you will receive on piece of work from each of your subjects on a weekly basis. This work will either be completed online such as SPARX for maths and written work using your exercise books. It is important that this work is completed by the deadline set by your teachers.

Is the school very strict and will I get many detentions?

Like your primary school, we have a behaviour policy and routines in place to support your learning and to make sure that you feel safe in school. There are different levels of detentions for different things like being late or not wearing your uniform correctly. We will tell you all about our routines and expectations at our transitions days in June but, do not worry we make it very easy not to get a detention.

Who do I go to if I have problem?

In short, you can speak to any adult at Trinity Academy if you have a problem. However, you will meet two very important adults when you start in September. Firstly, you will meet your Head of Year and secondly, you will meet your tutor. You will see your tutor and your Head of Year every day and they will make sure that you are prepared for the day ahead.

In addition to you tutor and Head of Year, we have a very experienced and dedicated Safeguarding Team. Our Vice Principal, Mr Grabowski is our Designated Safeguarding Lead and he is supported my two deputies, Miss Enegul and Miss Stephens.

Am I allowed to bring a mobile phone into school?

Like all secondary schools, we have a strict policy on mobile phones. You are allowed to have your mobile phone out up until you get to the school gate. Before you enter the school site, phones need to be switched off and placed in your school bag. They cannot come out until you leave the school site. If you need to make an urgent call to your parents or carers during the school day, you can do so at school reception.

Now for the serious part. If you are caught using your phone or have your phone out during the school day, it will be confiscated and kept safely until the end of term. The phone will need to be collected by a parent or carer.
